The original UK 911 racer
I spent last Saturday at Lydden Hill race circuit near Canterbury with Rob Russell and GVB 911D, the fourth Porsche 911 to be imported into the UK and the first one to be used in competition. Vic Elford won the first televised Rallycross event, staged at Lydden on 4th February 1967, beating the works Ford Cortinas but getting the showroom 911 pretty bashed up in the process. Ruined as an AFN demonstrator, the car then went back to Zuffenhausen and was given a 225bhp Carrera 6 spec engine and Vic raced it for the rest of ’67 and into ’68 in the BSCC. Then Nick Faure bought it and forged his reputation as a formidable circuit racer over the next few years. Now restored and immaculate, Lapping at Lydden, 40 odd years on, was great fun.

Vic Elford was reunited with this car a few years ago at Race Retro.

Nick Faure is soon going to be meeting up with Rob to see the car very soon too.
You forgot to mention it was the Autocar test car too I believe and Elford won BSCC in that car did he not?
